Growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of Western Maryland, David Miller
learned at an early age to appreciate nature and found inspiration in the majestic views that surrounded
the Miller's small wood frame home. It was also where he discovered, at a young age, his artistic talents
and dreamed of one day pursuing this passion.
As the first in his family to graduate collect, David earned a degree in
Fine Arts from Frostburg State University in 1987 and, upon graduation, accepted a position with Hobby
House Press Publishing. It was there David was first introduced to the world of teddy bears through Teddy
Bear and Friends' magazine. He quickly gained an appreciation not only for the craftsmanship and artistry
of handcrafted teddy bears but for the rich history of sharing the gift of a teddy bear.
In 1999, David accepted the position of Vice President of Marketing and
later Product Design for the The Boyds Collection Ltd, a leading designer and manufacturer of collectible
teddy bears. While his career kept him busy, he continued to pursue his art and his dream of pursuing his
passion full-time was always at the forefront of his mind.
With the encouragements of family and friends, he left Boyds' in pursuit
of his dream and launched Bloomwood Originals'. Today, David continues to refine his hand-carved bears,
still finding inspiration from the home he shares with his wife, Jennifer and their cat, Lucy.
